We respect your privacy. This page explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've kept it short and plain because legalese hides more than it explains.
What we collect
Newsletter subscribers: the email address you provide. Stored in our database. Used to send you the newsletter and nothing else.
Visitors: request metadata for operational purposes — IP address, user agent, referrer. Used for debugging, abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics. We hash IPs with a daily-rotating salt so we can't re-identify a visitor across days.
Annotations: if you leave a margin annotation on a post, the annotation text is stored alongside an anonymous visitor identifier (no email or account required).
No cookies, no fingerprinting, no third-party trackers.
Cookies
We set a small number of first-party cookies for functional purposes: your theme preference (light / dark) and your sign-in session if you're an admin. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies.
Newsletter
If you opt into the newsletter, you'll receive periodic emails — at most weekly, sometimes less. Every message includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email us to be removed from the list.
AI features
When you interact with AI features (inline rewrite, distribution generation, reader Q&A), the prompt and response transit through the AI provider configured by the site owner (Anthropic / OpenAI / Google Gemini / z.ai). The site owner brings their own provider key, so the AI provider's privacy terms apply on top of ours. We don't log your AI prompts on our side.
Analytics
We collect aggregate, anonymous usage signals — page views, scroll depth, reading duration, Web Vitals — using first-party beacons. No individual reader profiles are built. The data lives in our database and is never shared or sold.
Data retention
Newsletter records: until you unsubscribe (then deleted within 30 days). Analytics: 365 days, then aggregated and the per-row records purged. Annotations: indefinitely unless you ask us to remove them.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Email the address below and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the EU/UK, the GDPR/UK GDPR rights apply — same process.
